Finally the new version is online. A complete redesign has been made, as well as a new identity. Here are some features of this release.

Technically the site is based on the Starkers WP Theme by Aaron T. Grogg with the use of the HTML5 Boilerplate framework, WordPress for the CMS, jQuery for the animations, Fontsquirrel for the custom fonts, and finally html5 and css3  for the structure. The whole javascript has been hand-written and is using just one extra plugin, the backgroundPosition.js by Alexander Farkas.

As you can see by the above picture, the site is responsive. I chose to make it responsive in a “fixed” way. What i mean is that the site is not 100% fluid but rather has steps, four different resolutions to adapt from.  The main one as i like to call it — or the largest — is taking place above 1260 pixels. This is where i started the design process. I then used it to adapt the site to the lower resolutions; 1020px to 1260px; 768px to 1024px and finally less than 480px. It basically fits large screens, laptops, tablets and then mobiles.

The reason why the design is not all fluid is because some pages have special features that would have been much more complicated to render in a fluid way rather than fixed.

The trickiest section to make responsive was the about page. All javascript elements do respond to the screen sizes variations, from the interactive map to the sliders. On the home page, the blog and the works, i chose to use some tabs under 1020px wide to organize the content.

The two main features are the responsive architecture and the work section that gives now much more details about what i do. I also now have a full blog that will hopefully be updated frequently. I plan to post news about my work and webdesign in general, some code snippets and some tutorials about html, css, js and Wp.

A few numbers for this v8:

And there it goes. I hope that you enjoy this new version. I am personally pretty proud of it has i spent countless hours in every step of its creation, from the paper work to the last optimizations.

Cheers.

About

So, i'm a developer from France currently living in Rio de Janeiro. I do code for the front-end side of the web with things like javascript, html, css, preprocessors, tasks runners, version control, frameworks, tdd, CI, Wordpress and others.

I do speak english, portuguese and french, read tons of books, love to play on a wake, bmx and snowboard and would like to travel to the Karakoram range, Tierra del Fuego and Mongolia.

I do appreciate you stopping by and admit i did abuse of the auxiliary verb do in this about.
